@CMSMJ1 I have the forum page as my favourites so i never see the front page of the site. But at work yesterday i noticed that you are the new face of 400GB
V4 Guru, bike racer and model are there no ends to your talents
Are you doing any days with EMRA this year, they have a new surface all the way round and a new paddock and better run of at Gerrads.
Cheers

Yeah the only common size of slicks we can get are 165's, fit fine but it does change the tyre profile somewhat. They're designed for 5" gp250 rears so by the time you fit it on a 4.5" rim it won't be 165mm wide (no clearance issues).CMSMJ1 wrote:165 will fit for wets - the Oz massive run 165 slicks so get them sorted.
And they're brilliant (Dunlop or Bridgy)!

Does teh bike turn/change direction faster with the 165?

TBH I've never noticed a difference. Only ever used them in races, the extra grip of the slick gives me a lot more confidence, even though most of it is probably just in my head...skinnydog0_0 wrote:Does teh bike turn/change direction faster with the 165?

If fitting a wider tire, wouldn't you also want to fit a matching new front tire?
The guys at my bike store said, my bike wouldn't handle anywhere near aswell if I went larger on the rear and with a non matching front due to different sidewall designs.

@Cammo
165 slicks are designed for 5.50" rims, or at least dunlops KR108s, KR364 intermediates 5", KR244 wets 5.50". But all of them are can be fitted in 5" to 5,50" (as per dunlops fitment guide).
Michael Rhuel fits 180 slicks in a 5,50" PVM... to the best of my knoledge.

Yeah I realise that, but they work fine on the stock 4.5" rim. I've never had a problem with the feel, in fact I reckon the extra grip makes the bike feel sublime through corners.fourfingers wrote:@Cammo

The grip level is outstanding, worth the small sacrifice to the handling (which I can't notice). Just ask most of the Oz formula 400 field!

A friend of mine also fits 165 on 4.5 rims, and has your same opinion... so if it feels right, it must be right.
