Black box under seat cowling???

Post by graham72 » Fri Nov 27, 2009 6:50 pm

Bored at work, so thought I'd take the seat cowling off and have a looksee!
There's a black box cable tied just above the rear lights with wires going in and coming out, says HRC not for highway use.
Anyone got any idea what it is??

No - it reckon will be an SP box - it derestricts the Speedo.

Is there a CDI there too? WHich has only got wires going in... rather than in one end and out the other like the SP box..

Yep there's one other box underneath with one set of wires going in held down by two metal prongs!

While I've got the cowling off, what needs to be undone to move the undertray enough so I can get a pole on the end of the subframe to bring one side up? Have undone the two bolts at the end of the subframe.

Bolt for the header bottle and one hidden around the rear coils.

Best to remove the battery too.

Ok so just took air filter apart and should it have a paper element in it? Looks like the paper has been cut out and a piece of lightly oiled black foam about 3/4 inch thick has been put in it's place. Is this ok or should I get a new paper one??

Well it's OK, as to if you want to swap back to standard that's your call.

I think the consensus is that the standard filter flows pretty well.

i'm with mark, deffo a Desrestriction unit (providing its a jap bike :P)

And as already been said.. check your jetting if you want to replace the foam with a std air filter as if it's been jetted to suit it'll run far too rich with a stock filter
