Howdy guys :)

OK I am going to try this, so am I right in thinking I just splice into the blue/orange wire and add a length of wire to it and put it straight to positive of the battery ?

I want to make sure I am doing this right so that I dont fry my CDI.

So are we saying then that the NC35 has 2 restrictors, one in the clocks and the CDI one ?

Thanks in advance  :worthy:

It seems that the problem you have is that it is not revving out rather than it is being restricted electronically.

The speedo restriction cuts 2 cylinders...you would notice that if it happened...

Bugger ... ok thanks for that CMSMJ1, I guess I need to strip and clean carbs next but because I don't wanna have to be taking the carbs on and off all the time I might as well wait now until I can afford a new jet kit and some new emulsion tubes and see what difference that brings.

Cheers

Get the thing on a dyno, then you have no wind/road resistance to worry about and that will tell you if its restricted anywhere. It will also tell you how its fuelling and if the current jetting is wrong. For around £30 this could shead a bit more light on your 'problems'?

The restrictor is in the clocks, you can mess around by taking your clocks apart or just run the blue/orange wire to 12v :)

Most 35's will already have the M-Max or similar box, if you look on the back of the clocks there should be a little keyhole shaped hole with wires coming out from the back of the speedo at about 9oclock (3oclock if looking at the back), there should be a plug (shaped a little like a baseball cap) but there isn't always. Anyway, follow the lead from this, it should terminate in a plug after only 2-3inches, if it plugs into another connector which goes into a small (box of matches[1] or so) sized box, then out into another connector then into the wiring it's got a derestriction box on. If on the other hand the connector goes straight into another one which then goes into the rest of the wiring and is clipped neatly into the back of the clocks then the odds are it hasn't.

Basically it looks something like this

FWIW our NC35 with standard gearing will pull well off the speedo which is about 120mph (indicated, of course this could be far lower 'real' speed).

Thanks for that Druid

Right these posts are good finally think I might be getting somewhere, this is keeping me awake at night, I love me RVF so much but this speed issue is doin me head in :(

Right I got some pics ere for ya :

From what you have said, if I understand you right, there is no black m-max box on the back of the clocks :o

Next question then is ........ where can I get one ?

I don't mind saving a bit and getting a HRC ECU if that would be better ? or another ECU but I would prefer a cheaper option if poss.

Even though I disconnected the speedo at the clocks and didn't get any more speed does that mean it could still be restricted on the 35 ? or is it all wired into the loom / ecu etc.

Any ideas on what my best option is now please  thanks 8-)

Yep, no M-Max or similar, OK, you see that connector between the tacho and speedo, that's where the M-Max would connect in between those two.

Ah now if you mean you removed the speedo cable from the back then that *should* see you bypass the restriction, if however you disconnected the electrical connection to the back that makes it miss-fire over 5k.

You can just take the speedo apart and twist the tang out of the way so that it never restricts it, Steve Birring used to have a page on how to do it but it seems to have gone the way of the dodo.

Of course you could just have a poorly NC35 like Hamsters NC30 that makes only 45HP! Get it on a dyno and you'll know for sure.
