bit of a stupid question.. Rear brake
Hiya, my rear caliper is off at the moment so I have no rear brakes, I got a new exhaust and I desperatley want to go for a ride to test it out, apart from the obviosus not having a rear brake is there any reason I shouldnt ride it? (the rear brake never really gets much use anyway)

Re: bit of a stupid question.. Rear brake
It's illegal, you might need to do a hill start, you might need to do an emergency stop.....please don't ride without a back brake as much for everyone elses safety as much as your own.
Too spensiff!!!

Re: bit of a stupid question.. Rear brake
Thought as much :), it will be staying on the track then, behind my house runs what was the old railway which genuinely is a private road/track i have ridden it up and down there a couple of times (its only about 100 meteres long) my second question is there any reason why I shouldnt move the bike around run it/ ride it up and down this piece of track with the rear caliper off and the brake fluid out (just from the rear brake) yes I am a noob I know I just want to make sure it wont be damaging anything by doing it :)

Re: bit of a stupid question.. Rear brake
I havent used my rear brake for 4 months.... I no this cos iv adjusted it so its well up and actually have to take my foot off the lever to press it.
you can easily do hill starts with the front brake and the rear brakes not gona help you much in an emergency stop (got cbr600 front brakes braided lines and m/s) so dont ever need to stop quicker.
Id say go for it but it is kindof illegal but I was thinking about it as a way of junking a fair bit of weight

I'll play it safe and not bother but honestly I dont use the back brake at all, the only reason i wanted to sort it is because it was sticking on, is the rear brake on a seperate system to the front? cos i have ridden it up and down a bit and just wanna make sure im not risking breaking stuff

the rear brake is on a seperate system to the front.it has its own master cylinder and fluid reservoir.keep it fitted just in case you ever need it.you will save money on pads if you dont use it very often or at all.
a little pointer though, using your rear brake in and around villages and the city is much better than the front, its easier for tight maneovers.also if your into fast road riding trail braking can be a benefit and can help you turn the bike faster depending on what roads you are on.
wull
please,god,....give me the chance to prove that winning the lottery won't spoil me!!!

Re: bit of a stupid question.. Rear brake
plus when y
It's good for standing on hills / at lights, steadying the bike during slow speed manouvers, and invaluable for slowing the bike down mid corner when your a bit too hot... if you pulled the front brake you'd be off.
I'd be lost without the back brake
Agreed.wullvfr wrote:rich1988 wrote:I'll play it safe and not bother but honestly I dont use the back brake at all, the only reason i wanted to sort it is because it was sticking on, is the rear brake on a seperate system to the front? cos i have ridden it up and down a bit and just wanna make sure im not risking breaking stuff

Re: bit of a stupid question.. Rear brake
dont agree with that tbh, any braking stands you up its just cos the rear is so fantasticly shit it dosnt make much effect and I dont do much slow town manuvering, and if im too hot into a corner I just lean over more
and rear brake wont help your turning, turning on a closed throttle will but tbh alot of corners you can take pinned on a 400 if you've got the tyre feedback and know the road well

Just get out and ride it, stop being so bloody soft. Do you always ride at exactly the speed limit.......................................
You say you're a noob???? Well if you do go out and crash at least you will have a story to tell. And chicks dig scars.
