How much time, money and what sort of engineering skills have you got?

Most people would have said it wasn't possible to fit a blade engine in a tj but over on the pb forum an
Aussie bloke has done exactly that and then fitted triumph daytona bodywork.

It looks the muts nuts but is most definately not a quick and easy swop.
He came across as very knowledgeable about the potential pitfalls
and spent lots of time and effort getting it right.

I guess it depends how much effort you want to go to and whether after all that effort you'll end
up with something that is nice to ride.

Yes White your right but the thing with any conversion is knowing the time it takes is worth it in the end.
The Blade motor works because the bottom end mounts are the same and the front and rear sprokets line up. The engine it'self is compact and weighs about 10kg more than the 400.
Whereas the 750 is bigger everywhere and the sprokets don't line so your looking at a lot of work just to get the engine in. After that the weigh and power slowly break the frame apart ... not worth the effort.

The Blade motor was done in another PB bike back in the 90's but just look at how much FZR is left in the hybrid ... more or less just the frame.

As ever Evil is right. Forget it - too much work and it will tear the frame apart. Not a hand in glove fit like some of the other engine swaps is it?

take a look at an early R1 frame - it packs about 6 less bhp at the back wheel than your engine and it's still got twice the meat on it of a 400 frame, and I know how lively the R1 can still make things! (as I have both a 400/600 conversion and an R1 iin my garage)

As someone who also has a YZF750 track bike, the engine that will then become surplus starts to look like it might be worth talking to you about....but that wasn't the reason I suggested it shouldn't be done. not for a moment. well....kinda!

Will this engine need the top mountings modded to slode into a YZF750 standard frame? - FZR lumps need a hole drilled in the top mounts as there is 1 bolt not 2 on the head, and a Thunderace engine needs the top mounts moved up 10mm on the frame - which is this lump of yours, or will it go straight in (I'd be surprised)

I have been an engineer for 24yrs helped start the company i'm with now i tig and mig all metals also run a laser cutter and do all the cad stuff for it too even nesting of parts and have access to pressbrakes and the other machinery in the two factories even powder coating too so all i really needed was the frame dimensions.
Put a 97 vfr750 motor in an nc30 a few years ago was tight but really was a little heavy for it.
Even did a few axles for 750 wheel conversions back then too.

Thanks

I'm sure you can do it - it's just a lot of work for the gains that you'll get. The Blade engine is doable if you want a more powerful motor than a 600 and it's only about 10kg more weight.

Otherwise just put the engine in a yzf750 frame ... you know that will fit and be capable of the extra horsepower over the standard engine.

Just the space between the upper engine mounts also frame rails just above the mounts to see how much can be gained on removal of the mounts i have a yzf750 frame with the motor in already and some r1 forks laying around too just wanted to keep it all yamaha unlike the blade motor swap.

Thanks

Ok,the space between the top mounts is,approx 373mm.
and the space between the frame rails on the top side is ,approx 337mm.
sorry i did not measuere the under side of the rail.it is a little wider.

Hope this helps.

I,had better MEASURE my spelling to.
