If you want to go really radical....
The yokes from a VJ22 RGV250 or a GK76a GSXR400 fit directly into the 3TJ headstock. This allows for the known mod of fitting '04/'05 ZX6R forks, USD with radial calipers. You can even use the RGV or better still the GSXR front wheel, axle and speedo drive just by making up some spacers for the forks!!
I'm in the process of putting some RGV forks (Maxton modified) on my 3TJ, just because I have them lying around from a previous bike. THe ZX6R mod is on my future list....

White ... best thing on the forum is to say what you've got and what you end up with. ZXR400 forks are fine and you can press the steering stem from the 3TJ into the triple clamps and fit it all up as a Kwak front end. Presumably if you use the r6 yokes with a 3tj stem you lose the steering lock due to the offset ignition lock?
I think the 3tj with a modern R6 usd front end would look awesome. Still I suppose I'd better fix my electrical problem first
If you don't have the Kwak stuff you could have some clamps made up from NK Racing http://www.nkracing.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; they can probably turn some spacers for the TJ front wheel too.
Personally I'm not such a fan of doing something for the look - it needs to be useable performance too. Otherwise we'd just ride cruisers

I fitted the r6 rear shock a while back but I'm still running the stock fixed 3tj front
suspension.
it is totally serviceable so I'm in no rush.
I'm just looking at available options as my long term plan is to go the hybrid route and throw a thundercat motor in it.
(haven't told the Mrs yet
)
I am at the stage of wanting to sort out how I want the bike to look and feel before throwing any extra power in there.
I like the look of usd's and figure I can get modern performance, adjustability and the bonus of the look I'm after all in the same package with a bit of effort.
The bikes not just about looks but if I can get the dribble factor as well as a performance improvement then it's all good.

You really need to think about the whole thing then, which will include calipers and discs ... and of course it will depend on how you use it.
I have SP forks RWU and for I want they're great. I've never really adjusted them, or the shock (which does everything too) and the standard calipers with braided hoses and radial master is if anything to powerful. Although if I was doing all again I'd look at the USD Radial Kwak package .... or if I had the dosh an Ohlins / WP setup but it's not really worth it when you weigh the cost against the bike.

yep, I've got to consider the cost also, especially as I now have to shell out for new headlamp bulbs and a cdi. 
I only do roadwork currently. No track as yet although that may change.
I like generally tinkering with stuff so this is one of my little 'projects' otherwise
known as a waste of time and money by she who must be obeyed
I've certainly got more time than money so the planning stage may be a while longer yet!

Hi, im also running the r6 shock and sp forks on my hybrid. The sp forks handle superbly so i havent looked at upgrading them, although the zxr forks may be a cheaper option as good sp forks are quite rare now. (Ive seen a pitted set go on ebay for £250 before).
If you are only doing road riding do you really need all the extra adjustabilty? It might be cheaper to have your original forks overhauled and set up by someone like maxton.
Im also using standard calipers, discs and master cylinder with a set of goodridge braded hoses and EBC HH pads. It stops more than adequatly with plenty of feel. As for modern performance, i totally embarrased a ducati 1098 going round him at Mansfield last year!
Must admit tho, usd's look trick!
