All you need to know is whether you have the early model forks or the late model forks.

Early forks haev a preload only adjuster on top, the later ones have a brass screw inset into the preload adjuster as well.

early preload only forks on 89 bikes, the rest have adjusters for rebound too.

OK - you have old forks then.

Yours should be a 22mm bolt in the fork top and a large, flat head screw thread sticking out of it?

The later forks have the same large bolts, a different preload bit and in the middle a small brass screw.

No brass = old forks.

Hope this helps.

What springs you after anyways? If you wanted to upgrade you want to be looking at Hagon progressive springs or a Rick Oliver kit which uncludes spings, spacers and oil level tools etc - bargain.

The older forks are a damping rod fork - they are not externally adjustable whereas the newer forksmare a cartridge fork which has the screw adjustability for rebound. You can intermally change compression damping too if you felt the need.

I use the old forks BTW - love them. Rebuilt with Hagon springs, 10w oil and a smaller air gap than std - cannot recall off the top of my head but think I used 500ml of oil rather than 490 - If I recall this correctly! LOL - am redoing them in the next few months so will have to measure it then!
