Re: NC29 project
seems a long time since ive updated this now... I have been busy though, ive managed to sort most the niggles and have fitted the fairing kit which is looking great. Its a pretty good fit to be honest and only took a little bit of fettling. Some of the mounting points could be better, they are essentially lengths of plastic attached to the inner side of the fairings which you have to either drill your own holes for or use self tapping screws. I had to cut a few down as well as they were a bit long. The area around the tail light could be a bit better too as the fairings it replaced had extra mounting points which made the seat lockup more secure. All in all i cant complain at all as the fitting was easy and its transformed the bike, it looks great now!
Other good news, I had the MOT yesterday and it passed without a single advisory
so to say im happy would be an understatement! Ive had my first couple of rides now and oh my god what a great little bike! It feels way more agile than my cbr600f and i instantly feel a lot more confident on it than i ever have on the 6.
Just a few issues to resolve now...
- speedo not working
- cant align the mirrors so guess my screen brace is fooked, can these be bent back into shape or am i fighting a loosing battle? I tried for a good hour last night and probably made it worse lol
- Jumping around the revs in 3rd gear when going above 7k revs, my thoughts are that a good old italian tune up may fix this?

Re: NC29 project
Good to hear its going well.
Regarding your brace. Mine had a twist in it so decided to try and bend it straight by hand and yes it made it worse! So bad the centraI part had a real bad curve in it. I managed to fix it at work by putting it in a vice and manipulating it with a bit pipe down all the struts and even a spanner to twist the end of all the struts. I made sure it was square by keep putting it on to the table and checking that all four points touched without it rocking and just kept tweaking it until it was perfect. Hope that makes sense?

Pictures pictures pictures
Just as a reminder, this is what i started with:

And after much love and attention we have the finished article...

Its been a really great project and i've learnt a lot along the way. I was really quite lucky with my find in that i had a very decent machine to start with, Ive barely touched the engine apart from the carbs. All other consumables, fluids, bearings, forks, suspension, some electrics, wheels and fairings have all been refurbished or replaced so it should be good for a long time now. Ive only had a couple of short rides but im completely smitten already
Big thanks to all that have helped with my little problems here and there, im sure there will be a few more bits and pieces that crop up and ill be sure to try and help out others where i can
Now, to make the most of the dry weather

Re: NC29 project
Brilliant, the fairings look good, most people would not guess they were aftermarket and I think the fit looks ok. The dummy tank looks fine as well, what was it like to fit and what is the the fuel cap recess like?

Re: NC29 project
Thanks im very happy with how the fairings came out. The tank cover was really easy to fit, it just slides straight over and is a very good and snug fit. The fuel cap recess is the only bit thats not quite perfect but it was always going to be an issue, here is a pic from above:Durka Durka wrote:Brilliant, the fairings look good, most people would not guess they were aftermarket and I think the fit looks ok. Re: NC29 project
I wonder if you could do something to tidy the edge up of the filler cap, maybe a large rubber ring or plastic just to frame it better?

Re: NC29 project
I have been wondering about that, maybe some sort of foam ring that would compress to give a snug fit might work. Id really love to get the tank painted, so far ive had one quote for £200 which includes decals... hmm
