Re: New Honda V4 400?
The UK licence hence I believe if it does happen it'll end up like the cbr500 things.
And I'm basing this all on the idea that ktm have made their rc390 to fall into the a2 category (or whatever it's called)

It's not having what you want but wanting what you've got....Loud ,Proud and Modified ....

Do they sell the CBR400R in England?
That makes 46hp stock, easy enough to downtune I reckon, would seem a much more likely candidate for a uk A2 or whatever its called licence if they were thinking of marketing somethign like that.
A full on V4 sports wouldn't fall into that category but outputting anything more than aroud 60hp would fail Japanese emission laws, as I said above there is no power restriction anymore mainly becuase making anymore than 60hp fails emission laws.
And a full on 400 V4 wouldnt have so much call I reckon.. will see anyway :D

I agree, it looks cheap in the pictures, I've not seen one in person (flesh/plastic,whatever way you want to put it) but to be honest I don't feel the need, I know I'm not going to be impressed.
IF this v4 thing does go ahead I hope to god it's better built than the 500 I see in the pictures

Well thats just its isnt it, if im honest i cant see honda breaking form from their latest efforts and putting the v4 engine in a beautifully crafted alloy frame with aggressive looks, instead i suspect it will be housed in bland black frame with spindly forks and swingarm and bits of pointless plastic covering up the mechanics.royster81 wrote:IF this v4 thing does go ahead I hope to god it's better built than the 500 I see in the pictures
Oh well at least we can rob the FI systems from them for our NC's and make the bike honda should of

Re: New Honda V4 400?
You make it sound so good when you said that!
What would it need/take for you to want to buy one but ?
A beautifully crafted alloy frame, aggressive angles, FI,USDS, digi clocks like the SP1/2 and projection lamps, gear driven cams ( no V4 is without THAT whining sound), and last but not least ....... A big giant F off alloy radiator to cope with the heat and so you don't get 'sahara nuts' when you ride in the summer !?

Re: New Honda V4 400?
Tend to agree with the above the finish on modern bikes is poor nothing like honda build quality from the early nineties. There's a lot of production cost cutting on the newer bikes the use of recycled plastics on trim infills etc scrivets holding panels on and on my vfr1200 velcro used to hold the tank cover in place ffs!
My mates 09 blade is worse still poorly plated parts flimsy plastics thin paint and despite his ocd cleaning the bike looks awful.
So would imagine if a new v4 400 is on the way the technology injection etc will be an advance I wouldn't expect anything like the quality of my 20 plus year old nc30 going by all the recent honda's I've owned.

Re: New Honda V4 400?
As I've said many times before not just in this thread, back in the 80s Japan was in its bubble period, there were many bikers who only had a standard licence (400cc limit) and wanted a sports bike.
Now Japans economy isnt good (the whole worlds gone pretty shitty) and the number of bikers are much lower.
The V4 400 was made for the Japanese market due to demand, which isn't there anymore.
I cannot imagine where they would make and build and sell such an expensive machine for.
Did this magazine say how and why they alluded to such a far fetched idea? I wonder what it is they know..
That CBR500? seems a bit crap, it only makes 1hp more than the 400, but then again its the numbers things.. probably sounds better than a 400 to mostbikres... and im guessing there are other 500cc bikes in the learner legal category?
