New 3TJ Project
Got myself a new project yesterday. Picked her up for 50 pounds.

I think you can see why she was so cheap. Time to start looking for a good 400RR engine or a 600R engine.

Re: New 3TJ Project
Nah, bottom end is completly knackerd. It acctually cracked the crank. The inlet cam is also bent and cracked. Was quite a blow. Haven't had time to inspect the gearbox/clutch yet but judging by the amount of s**t that was thrown through the engine i'd be suprised if they survived the ordeal unharmed.
Picked up some goodies yesterday. The bike didn't come with keys, wel acctually it did, one key which was broken off in the ignition. So picked up a complete lock-set, a mint set of seat panels (the ones on the bike are fine but you never know), a seat (didn't come with the bike) a complete set of 3TJ brakes (calipers, SS-lines, disks and all for front and back). Means i don't have to mess around with refurbing these calipers. Also got an uncracked and un-cut front fender, a set of carbs, airbox and a whole load of small stuff from a guy breaking his 3TJ after inspecting the tarmac.
I'm not quite sure what to do atm. I can pick up a low-milage (11000km's) 400RR engine for a good price. Or a 600R engine with a blown gearbox. I still have a 400RRSP, 400RR, 400R and a 600R gearbox laying around so that shouldnt be a problem.
Personally im leaning towards puting a 400 lump back in and restoring her to her former glory. I already have a 4/6 conversion and must say that i miss the 15000+ rpms.....

Re: New 3TJ Project
Nah, it's not gonna be a 600 conversion......
It's gonna be a 660 conversion. FZR 600 (so not the foxeye's 600) bottom end incl. crank with a Thundercat 600R top end would give you a 660 engine.
Do need a programable CDI though.
A member over on the dutch FZR forums did the same and got 110hp outta his 660 conversion.
110hp in a 160kg FZR :)

Re: New 3TJ Project
I'm doing a minimum of 660 atm for the thunderbike for next season, still trying to get the 3mm overbore pistons for the thundercat to give 727cc. Still doubt you'll get 110bhp though, my 600 has only 88 at the rear wheel (41 torques), prob near 100 at the crank. I'm aiming for 100bhp and 55 pounds of torque with the 727

Re: New 3TJ Project
Hmmm, 88 for a 660 engine? That's just a tad over the stock 600. A mate has done it, and he had with stock YZF cams 107hp on the backwheel. I have a set of racing cams which should boost it by a tad.
Basically (how a mate of mine did it), you get a stock FZR600 bottom end with crank. Then get a Thundercat top. SO cilinders, pinstons, rods, head, cams, etc. You'll need to make your own 3mm foot-gasket and have a programable CDI. But other than that the YZF600 rods bolt on to the FZR600 crank.
The FZR600 has a longer stroke and smaler pistons. The YZF has a shorter stroc ebut larger pistons. Mate the two together and you have a 660cc engine.

Re: New 3TJ Project
If you use a big bore kit for the T'cat it should add the extra 60ish cc getting to the 720 conversion.
I guess if it was taken even further you could see if the 400 SP gear clusters would fit giving you a close ratio box .... something to think about anyway.
