After some help from my dad, I have 13v ish at my tachometer, and 0.5 volts from the signle wire. Are these values enough? Or is my new tacho dead too?

Are you sure you have the correct tacho for the bike? Rvf and vfr are not interchangeable.
On the rvf tacho 0 rpm is in the 6 o'clock position, on VFR tacho it's around the 4 o'clock position.

You cant use the wrong tacho :)

Have checked and there exactly the same. There's a "working" tachometer on ebay at the moment, going to see if I can nab it.

Do you have the earth wire screwed onto the back of the tacho?
