My recent addition has the following label on the undertray, it's on a 'J' plate...

NH196
NH196K
Had a look but the number 196 seems quite common and appears to have several schemes?

The k would indicate type one would it not?
K models were type one rwb and type 2 seed.
As for the j reg theres loads of cock up in greybike registrations, ive seen 1990 vfrs with 1995 M reg's!

The only way to tell is the frame number, undertrays are pretty easy to change over so you can't trust that way.

Yours should be a type 3 RL the latter RWB 90-91 according to that frame number.

Haynes manual should give a break down of frame numbers.
89- 1000000
91- 1100000
Uk- 2100000
