Ugh what a pain, you think people who powder coat wheels for a living would understand such a simple concept.

Friend of my dad's is an engineer and always re-taps our work tools and drills out rounded bolts for us etc, going to go pop round his in a minute and see if he can tap them for me.

I've scraped off all the paint on the disk seat so at least they sit on now, just can't bolt the fuckers!

That's poor even the dirt cheap place i sometimes use mask the threads up. I wouldn't accept them if they didn't.

Well after an hour or so's painstaking work with: an orbital sander, various sandpapers, a chisel and a stanley knife, I have cleaned up the disk seats to what I would describe as "roughly acceptable".

A friend of mine has a tap set and is going to tap them out later, he offered to lend me the kit but I'm too scared of fucking up the threads. What a ball ache.

Did you have to scrape out the bearing housing as well?
That's pretty poor practice really. Takes them 2 seconds to bung up the holes.

Ive always masked my PC up as i had sent a brake caliper for PC a few years back and they didnt mask a thing. It went in the bin.

But my place always masked over my masking so cant moan.

Sorted now! Took it to a mate who spent about 30 minutes tapping all the holes out for me as I didn't fancy it. Beer tokens are the way the real world works.

Not fitted the discs as I've just got in after spending all day trying to sort these wheels, trying to find a person with a small enough spring compressor - couldn't find anyone, and driving 30 miles to see a car which turned out to be crap. Bit of a shit day!

The brakes are binding at the front, but tbh I just want the bike back together so if I can get the pistons back in the callipers enough to get the discs in, I'll leave the calliper strip + clean for another day. Viewing a car tomorrow night, so I'll spend the day getting electrics hooked up, speedo drive and kickstand and footrests etc all cleaned and bolted back on. Will also carry on the hunt for someone with a small enough spring compressor.
