NC30 battle rearsets

Post by poomba2hd » Tue Jan 24, 2012 10:29 pm

Hi All,

I am building a race bike, and have a set of battle rearsets (score). never seen anything so chunky.

Question is, I am chasing spare parts for them (i.e. shifter/brake pedals/pegs) does anyone know where i can get them??
I have scoured the net and all I can find is same for a cbr600... which does not help much..

and some more pics, cause i know people love em!!

FYI the rest of the bike for those that are interested...

Fully rebuilt from the ground up:
HRC Carb and airbox setup - using 155 mains at the moment, but still too lean, moving to 160's.
Full stainless exhausst
unknown muffler!!
battle rearsets
xr timer
CBR1000RR fork internal cartridges
GSXR 600 rear shock
17 rear wheel
braided linies
tyga fairings
Custom subframe
race loom
HRC module
Fresh motor
GP Race chain
Carbon engine protectors and frame sliders.

made 159hp as it sits on the dyno, but as mentioned, it is a fair bit lean at the moment, and that was on a 45 Degree celcius day, so a bit too hot for making good HP will dyno after 160 jets installed, and on a cooler day so see where i get...

Cheers,
Shaun.

Got to be HRC stickers. Only way to get those sorts of numbers! ;)

They're aluma-lite rearsets - no longer available.

I'm guessing that's an Aussie bike?

If you're needing 160 mains then I'd assume you're not running the hrc velocity stacks? You'll have an awful midrange hole in power without them. ;)

You can get the Battle Factory stuff direct from them if you can't find an importer. Here in the States we have a few places that import their stuff.

g'day everyone.

Firstly my apologies, just getting off a litre bike and used to seeing power up in the mid hundreds.. first time with a 400.. yes I meant 59 HP!!!

I tried many jetting combos, from 148 up to 160 mains, #35 and 38 pilots, different needles etc.

My current induction setup:
HRC air tray
Drilled out sides on the carby mount plate (?? (the plate that all 4 carbs bolt to)
HRC rubber velocity stacks
Standard needle with 1.5mm shims
Slide air dampener hole drilled out .5mm bigger than standard.
Standard pilot
160 main jet
2.5 full turns on air screw.
Exhaust full stainless mandrel 4-2-1, with about a 400mm end can.

Made 59HP, and power curve is spot on, i'll post the dyno readout when i get the chance. but basically, a beautifully linear climb on power with no flatspot. then a small 4hp faceplant once it hits the 15000rpm mrk, just before rev limiter..
I found drilling the slide was very effective in getting rid of that flat spot, and an extra 1/4 turn on the air screw seemed to help too (??), which i don't completley understand because it is only really meant to effect idle.

Very keen to get it back on the dyno on a cooler day..

The next item I need to attack:
- Better cooling system (had first track day on this on a 38 degree celcius day, and it did not cope very well at all - neither did I to be honest)
- new front disks (any suggestions??)

Thanks for the advice on the rearsets - will look into it... shame they are no longer continued, as they are a great bit of kit...

That's a decent setup, didn't realise you were using the hrc stacks.

Mine ran best with #40 pilots meaning I could get away with a much smaller main jet (usually +/- #142).

mmm, it's a mixed bag really, had a lot of people telling me that pilots will only effect bottom end, and a lot telling me it will shift the whole curve up a smidge. only way it worked for me was to just get it on the dyno and try different things, to see what got the best results. down side is you need to have all the jets and bits already to do that... but it was interesting sourcing them. I also had some bad experiences with Pilot screws making things dificult, so left them be. I suspect 59HP out of an unopened engine is probably about as good as it is going to get for now.

To be honest, i don't know why more people don't try this, the full HRC carb set up took me about an hour, including griding the ridges/dividers off the carb plate, and drilling it out. then it was just the fine tuning at the dyno (i.e. main jets and needle shim) - the hardest part is getting the carbs back on with the HRC tray fitted, as the rubber adaptor clamps are a PITA to get to.
Particularly now that Rick oliver sels the HRC bellmouths - i have a set of old buggered HRC items, and i couldn't pick the difference between the 2...

I will get photos up at some point..

Still need to figure out how to get rid of the small dive at the top end... right after peak power it leans out and falls away by about 3-4HP (at about 15000rpm)
going to try a different needle, maybe the profile of the HRC unit will help... but I also suspect one of the slides is a bit lazier than the others too..

So just had a track day at broadford, and found the VFR with my suspension setup (stock fork bodies, CBR1000rr internals and re kitted GSXr 600 shock) handled like a dream. felt right at home with massive lean angles all the way down to the foot pegs. I matched my 1000cc times on the 400 within the first 2 sessions.
I am running my gearing 14/41 , and found that still to be a smidge too long - so will be shortening that before the next track day, as chasing down the litre bikes can be very frustrating - loosing all you have gained from the corners, down the straight...
BUT - can't decide if that is the bike or me, trying to get out of the 1000cc habit (I.e. learning to wrap on the throttle at high lean angles - the blade tended to get a bit back end happy with that! - so learning that one will take time.
