Aye, there is a lot to be said for learning to fix your own bike.

Re: Reg/Rec
but i didn't take it, they pick it up for free so I think sent describes it better! the guy agree'd with me to what i think it might be they'll let me know...and as for paying through the nose feel free to give me another option, but first;Matchlessman wrote:if you mean 'take it to a honda dealer' you might just be better off selling it cheaper to someone that wants it rather than paying though the nose at a dealers just to get it working.
I have no tools...just a screw driver is all land lady has, I'm in my 20's and don't live with mommy and daddy who are on otherside of the world actually, they also don't pay for everything im not a rich daddy's boy, my tools are in africa, i pay all my bills myself, I work full time, garage is full only space to park bike in literally so i'd have to work outside in the rain and snow with my bare hands(as no tools like i said), i don't know anyone my age who has a bike they all have cars(usually paid for by mommy) so no tools to borrow or anyone who's had the same problems or fitted the same parts etc.
If nobody gives a good price the bike has to work anyway as i can't afford to pay for two modes of transport as i am currently doing, and without new job or contract can't fund new bike and can't sell anyway so no rush, so if i want any bike on the road running, the option is to get this one worked on by dealer, but feel free to give me any other options?

or you do the work and loan me the RSV in the meantime??CMSMJ1 wrote:razz it to my house, work on it all you like, razz it home..sorted,.

razz meaning push? lmao

anyway honda already has it guys, and ive bought a brand new 2010 bike from them last year and they've done work for me they're not that bad...maybe the reason all the dealers charge so much is you cheapo's don't use them enough! they do it for a living let them have your bike and then get receipts to sell to next owner like me so i don't have to guess when the coolant was changed or the plugs etc...like i have to guess on every single thing on this ex garaged bike(i.e. kept in a corner unused)!!
on a side note they split from honda now from being pushed to meet the same sales targets pre recession, sucks for some haha, still got their honda tech's though, no bother to me!

Re: Reg/Rec
I would have thought that buying some tools and working on the bike yourself would work out much cheaper than having a garage work on it. thats just my view though.
I do sort of wonder why you bought a 400 though if its just going to be used as a cheap means to get to and from work. if its reliability and cheapness you want, wouldnt you have been better off with a cg/cb125 or a moped of some sort.
Good luck with getting it sorted, lets hope the garage get it working ok and dont charge you a fortune.

razz meaning push? lmaobet i get it in your garage and the door never opens again and the door locks...
that or i could train it to your house and knick all your tools

Aye, my garage does eat bikes to be fair..there are 7 of them in there right now

I still don't understand your reliance on a dealer for a 20yr old bike.. A mint one is worth 2k a shitty one worth £500. Spending anything over £100 getting some coolant/plugs/filters changed or whatever is madness..
I use my dealer, local shop, for jobs I cannot be arsed about - like fitting tyres. I sold my tyre gear as for the ballache I just would prefer it to be popped on and sorted.
Everything else, absolutely everything, I have the tools for and if not, I'll buy them. You always make your money back on good tools.

Re: Reg/Rec
True but when I'm young and rent a room, space is another issue I can't fill a garage with tools and just need things done quick, which they wouldn't be if I did things myself, so a garage yes is costly but worthit for me right now, everyone has their opinion....
For some good news, I talked to the guy who picked it up(for free mind!) and told him I thought it was plugs(also what i said in the email to them asking them to pick it up), so guess what, they not only agree'd, fitted new spark plugs, bikes back in the game!!!!
Anyway now i need to know cost, and if low, will get them to do more to the bike while they have it
Not to be big headed but yea...I was right....shazam!
I am thinking of aquiring an oxford paddock stand though! make oiling up the chain alot easier!
For those who have one, do you get a strap and lock the front brake when its on the stand or not?
