3TJ motor's
Are motor's to fit a 3TJ hard to come by ..
I have tryed e-bay and cant find one to fit the 3TJ ..
I think my motor might be shot...the timing chain has slipped ..
I didn't take the head off yet to see the damage but when I look down the spark plug hole I can see the track of the valves on the piston ..(not good....lol)
So figured a new motor would probably be cheaper than a rebuild ..
Also does a 600 Fazer (02) head fit directly onto the motor ,

3TJ engines tend to be hoarded (and blown up!) by racers, a 600 conversion is the easiest/cheapest fix I reckon if you just want the bike up and rideable relatively quickly.
I've got no idea if the 02 Fazer head bolts on to the 3TJ, but I'd imagine the bore would be different and the cam timing would be all wrong for starters.

Yup I'd do a 600 conversion.
I think the 600 head would probably fit but the volumes are different. You can probably use a 1WG head (there a couple on e-bay) but really it's less work putting a 600 in.

Re: 3TJ motor's
Are you sure the "tracks" in the pistons aren't just the valve cutouts that are machined into them?
Worth checking the timing just in case it only slipped a tooth or two.

Wont know fully util I get the head off dobbslc about the valves touching ,but the timing seems to be a good bit out ,dobbslc wrote:Are you sure the "tracks" in the pistons aren't just the valve cutouts that are machined into them?

looking at around 6-8 teeth... Came on the problem ,last owner done a bodge job on cam chain tenisioner by putting a blob of weld on it ,which burn into the cam chain slide ..

But think the 3en1 head wont bolt to the frame of the 3tj but will look into it to make sure .
thanks a million
