Swingarm dilemma

Post by scotjell »

I have finally got round to getting in the garage and doing a winter overhaul on my NC30. Already having problems, but this is my main concern.

I had a swingarm bought from Andy off the forum in Plymouth good chap. I had it stripped and powdercoated thinking it would look nice and i have spent all day in the garage rebuilding it. Don't worry BSB is on Sky+ ;) I took the new bearings out of the freezer and fitted them to the swingarm and it was now I came across a problem I went to fit the dust seal to the side with two roller bearings and circlip to notice there is no room for it. I got the tape measure out and checked against my original swingarm and there is 6mm difference. The freshly treated one measures 208mm and the old one 214mm.

Also on the torque arm there are some rubber type washers and on the bike they have them on both ends but the drawing of the torque arm shows only one which is on the hub end? Whilst it's all off I'd like to get it back to what's right.

Any advice always welcome and I can provide pictures if this isn't explained clearly.

Sounds like you got a nc35 swingarm there.

Oh bugger. When I had all the bits off in a box I didn't think to look and today was strange as the insert bush sleeve whatever you want to call it had a smaller hole and a flat on the side. And the one off my 30 was totally different. So if someone is after a fresh powder coated satin black swingarm with new roller bearings and and needle bearing!!!!!! I have one grrrr. I don't suppose someone has any kicking around to measure where the pivot bolt goes???

pretty sure I have a NC30 swingarm and I have an NC35 bike - which bit do I need to measure to confirm?

If so, want to swap?

Cheers,

Where the pivot bolt goes through the big long one with the castle nut on. I'm thinking I may be able to get around this as the side that gets pushed against the frame hasn't been touched therefore the adjuster bolt will just have to wind in further and I will have to replace the roller bearings with sealed ones as the dust seal won't fit in.

It's just annoying to know I have just replaced the bearings and had it all coated and someone has played with it. Also if you have the long bolt to spare could you measure the diameter and this will confirm this is off a project bike

Many thanks for your time.

Well you've come up trumps again! Many thanks DM. Even still a little concerened as unable to fit a dust seal on the right hand side where the roller bearings and circlip fits. I will get a picture tomorrow. Where did you get that from anyway?

So Dgunthor looks like theres a nice fresh powder coated swingarm with new bearings going! The hub and torque arm will not be going with it.

Took some pictures today for those who'd like to see the differences.

Image

This shows the difference in depth NC30 on the left and what we think to be the NC35 on the right.

Image

This is the pivot bolt and the bush on the left is off the 30 and the two on the right are/maybe off the 35 and have a smaller bore.

And if anyone needs a nice swinger  for a winter project here are some pics. Please note it will not have the hub adjuster or torque arm but has brand new roller and needle bearings.
