Making an NC30 look amazing once again.

I have been planning a re-spray of my Honda VFR400 NC30 where I was going to spray it white place the Castrol graphics onto it and then re-lacker it. I didn’t really have any motive to get it done at lightning speed as it was my only mode of transport but on a nice sunny day I went for a ride going round a corner and the car was half way onto my side of the road the only way I could avoid a head on collision was to go over grass (rather bumpy) and ended up coming off of my NC30. The car driver didn’t even stop. I just about got her home and then I had my motive as the screen was smashed, the nose cone fractured in three places (not small ones), the belly pans badly scuffed and the tail unit wasn’t all too good. Once I had began to strip the fairings off that went I noticed how hard it was going to become as there were so many previous scars and injuries hidden. But I decided to find it all up like new and make her a real head tuner.
The picture below is my NC30 before she got hurt.

As I started to look at the nose cone I at first thought that the cracks were so big that I needed a new fairing but before I would get one I would at least try to fix it there was 4 separate cracks on the nose cone alone. There pictures alone should do the talking.

Then I had to apply to the glue to fasten the halves together.

Then I had to smooth this down I used a sharp blade then applied on skim of filler smoothed it down then applied another skim.

I then started to repair the seat fairings there was scuffs and there were a just hidden cracks from over the years.

The side panels were really difficult as there was a huge scuff and I found it hard to rebuild the ridge as I couldn’t get the ridge correct. There was also cracks on the bottom of the fairings and one of the bolt holes had completely became separate from the fairing.

I sprayed a small amount of primer onto the fairing as it helped me to see the lines and improve where needed.
There fairings are getting primer early next week and I will post again once I have put primer onto them.

fine job sir ! keep it coming should look good when finished plus you have the satisfaction of getting it done right.

on the subject of cars cutting in on bends thats my pet hate seems to be on the increase had a few close calls recently on left handers its as if your invisible and don,t matter even had some cross double whites doing it bastds.. they notice you in an artic ok probably realise their airbags are useless against 44 tons.. glad your ok and your bike will be back on the road better than before.

Its been a while but i have not long got back of my holidays :D
the bike is now fully sprayed and to start with I cleaned the surface and then I sprayed the fairing that had the filler into them (Nose cone, rear seat fairings both side and both of the bigger side fairing) the colour I went for is ASPEN WHITE as I’m a part of a BMW bodyshop so I went for a colour that was easy to recreate it when needed, so next time you see a white mini roof you know that’s the colour.

After I sprayed them I got every other panel from the bike and keyed them up using red scotch (not different to a brillow pad).

And I must say I was truly amazed at how lovely my bike is in white, all it needs now is for the Castrol graphics to be applied then she will be complete.

Although that being said I’m not sure if I can stop there I now already want to get my wheels powder coated, new clocks (mine are scuffed), repaint engine and various other bits and bobs like foot pegs heel plates.

I like it, white looks cool but it needs gold wheels

Well you what to see it when the castrol graphics have been put on.
And I was thinking black or white or one green and one red wheel.

Na i still stand by gold wheels, especially on a castrol rep.

Re-laquering over laquer is never a good idea but if your going to do it key the old laquer first with 1500 grit wet n dry or it will never stick for any period of time.

Gold wheels all way on a race rep. Or HRC 'Blagteks' if you like...

I work for a BMW bodyshop and I sprayed my own bike and I know all about keying up and decal applying but cheers
