Non Starter

Hello,

New member, I will admit I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to this but everybody has to start somewhere so please be nice if I've made a stupid error...

My NC30 has been stood for over a year so surprise surprise it's not starting, it's ticking over but not firing up, I've had the spark plugs out and 3 out of 4 are firing, the one that isn't firing it's not the spark plug thats at fault so maybe a problem with the HT lead? Anyway the bike should still fire up on 3, shouldn't it? I've been attempting to tick the bike over for a bit so I would imagine the spark plugs would be wet but they are bone dry... So I assumed fuel flow problem... And thats where I am at... Fuel tap is definatly ON and there doesn't appear to be a problem with the Vacuum Hose

ticking over but not firing up ? do you mean turning over ?

new plugs everytime. put a pipe onto the back of the fuel tap and suck hard to dislodge the diaphram then full choke no throttle. that should see some fuel flow. new plugs are the key though, once old ones are fouled they need a while and some cleaning to coax back into life.

hi haley and welcome aboard

you could try swapping the HT lead for one of the others that works, that's the easiest way to check that
and once you have a spark on all 4 i'd check the carbies out, and that's where my V4 experience ends

your best bet is to post this, or see if a mod will move it to the honda V4 workshop section where i'm sure you'll get plenty of advice

Could be the diaphram (spelling?) in the tap is goosed?

If it's been stood for a year the petrol in the carbs has probably dried out and left a gooey residue behind (these are all the additives in the petrol)

These gum up all the jets and stop the fuel getting into the engine.

Any bike that has been standing a long time without having the carbs drained should have the carbs removed and cleaned (not too difficult just fiddley the first time)

When there off you can also check fuel is flowing from the fuel tank by holding a jar under the petrol pipe and cranking the engine..
