(Lack of) rev limiter - NC23-J Gold ECU

Post by Townsend87 »

Hello,

My NC23 has a gold stickerd' ECU fitted, which i thought was standard. However i have discovered it has no rev limiter (hit false neatral between 5th & 6th at about 100!). Has anybody had the same problem? and do they know if this is standard for a J model NC23?

Thanks

The J model NC23 Triarm should have a gold cdi yes, should be marked KY2 on the gold sticker.

Thats my main concern although i have only been caught out once, but its really annoying on tracks still.

It may be because the redline is at 14k5 and the limiter cuts in at about 15k5. That extra 1000rpm obviously isnt meant to be used (too often) but can be somewhat usefull on ocasion. Little bit worrying seeing the needle woosh past the redline and go +15k

Failing that your ignition may be (slightly) broke, gold sticker sounds like a standard RRJ one.

if you have not blown it up, how do you know there is no limiter? Just by the tacho reading? Sure that is accurate?

thanks for the comments,

when i bought the bike the guy said it was a de restricted CDI unit, but with the gold sticker it looks like a standard unit to me. Its only gone to 17k once, and this was ages ago now and not blown up! lol.

i can only assume now that the ignition is slightly broke! seems to run awesome tho still tho! :D

I once spent a whole season racing an R6 where the tacho (previously accurate) started reading about 20% high, I thought the limiter was faulty too. It was only highlighted when I put it on a dyno............. :?

It is...

The earlier 23s had an unrestricted gold label CDI, the later models came with a restricted to 112mph blue label CDI.

It's nothing special.

Thanks again guys,

i think it may be a 'slightly' broken ignition as it seems to top out just fine at 125-30ish.. i dont think nc23s go any faster? Or do they??

maybe once i get £££'s il fix it! :/
