Footman James also do a laid up insurance, so if your not using the bike (repair / rebuild etc) it'll still be insurned.

Its not odd, its the law. Its to stop NCB's being earned on a bike that is dumped down your garden.

I have had multi bikes without MOT on my insurance...
I don't see what MOT has to do with insurers...what do they do in other places without a MOT - like Isle of Man or Ireland?

Yep same here.
I had laid up insurance on a couple of projects I was rebuilding just incase some pikey scum decided to steal them (insured for fire and theft just not to drive) (had to be garaged)

I don't see it being compulsory to ride an insured motorcycle on the road.
