I found this picture

Wondering if I could make one out of aluminum and just run it back to standard air box, doesnt look that complex.
Any thorts?
Cheers

Now that is a proper ram air setup.Joeblogs wrote:I found this picture

You could make one out of alloy, but probably not the best material. You want something that's very rigid (more resonating effect), and it would be difficult to mate the alloy tunnel to the stock airbox - having it all properly sealed are where all the benefits are.
All of the good ram air setups usually incorporate the scoop with the airbox lid for good reason. They also start at with a radiussed entry at the very front of the bike (with a hole cut in the front fairing), this is where the highest pressure air is. Having the scoop entry hanging over the radiator is more closely related to the hrc rvf setup. Probably not much difference in it, but if you're going to do it then every little bit counts.
Being a tight ar$e I would rather make something myself out of fibreglass than buying an off the shelf item. Erring on the side of being too small is much better than making the entry/tunnel too large in area. 3" x 1.5" is more than adequate for the demands of a 400cc engine.

Re: HRC carb upgrade
Drunkn Munky,
Is the fuel pump necessary when doing a carb to HRC specs?
(Just go myself a set of NC35 carbs that I'm planning to HRC...)

Re: HRC carb upgrade
No you dont need a pump for the HRC setup, the airbox is the same afaik. Your also need short stacks, jets, needles etc. Thing is the HRC kit is designed to work with cams and engine work etc so unless you got these the full HRC setup might not be best for you.gonzothegreat wrote:Drunkn Munky,

If it's a pure hrc setup then you don't need a pump.gonzothegreat wrote: Is the fuel pump necessary when doing a carb to HRC specs?

You will need to hrc mod the fuel tap though.

Re: HRC carb upgrade
CMSMJ1 on here has a set of 35 carbs, mesh filter, hrc tray, no airbox and some big arse jets and that works very well for his bike.

Re: HRC carb upgrade
I do..
I have the 4 short stacks, HRC slide springs and run 130 mains. HRC foam filter, no airbox lid. I'll dig out the dyno graph - it is a super smooth line which I am happy with.
I have a spare set of short stacks if someone needs them
