The 400 is generally a reliable bike, all of the 3TJ's i've owned (i'm on number 3) have been fine with no problems to talk about.

As long as the bike is well maintained and serviced regularly then you will get many miles of enjoyable riding (but that goes for any bike)

I have heard of people having a few problems with the EXUP system if its not adjusted properly and at higher mileages the top end is prone to a few rattles if the valves are not checked

No doubt the rest of the gang will add anything else worth mentioning

Nick.

The cams themselves are going to be fine - you'll need to service it and spray a little 3in1 oil down the spark plug holes before you turn it over.
Check the exhaust downpipes carefully for rust - the pipes are a Yam only part.

Ask if the valve clearances have been done - it maybe that's what the owner is talking about when they say about the cams

the owner hasnt said anything about the cams. its been off the road for just under 2 years but has been started nearly every day they said. so if thats true the bike should be ok.

If what they say is ture ... I'd have thought every week would be more probable though.

I'd still service it - all the filters and fluids, then it will need a decent ride

Yeh i wont be doing my test for about another month so my dad is going to service it and ride it to make sure it runs ok. its the 1994 uk model so if it runs fine will be a really good bike.

read the sticky post on how to put up pictures! check the fork seals as well if it's been stood for a while! check the tyres are ok before riding as well.
