Front forks
I currently have a set of forks with pre-load and damping.

I got another set which are from a K model.

I know the K model has conventional Damping and the others have a cartridge damper. But will I be able to get pre-load from the K model forks with my tops on them.

Re: Front forks
You already have preload on both of those forks. The later models have adjustable rebound on that brass screw.

Re: Front forks
no, you'll not get rebound adjustment
They are fundamentally different inside. the older ones are a damping rod type and the damping is by holes in the rods as it pulls through the oil.
You can tune this by different oil weight or by having a specialist weld up the holes and create new ones of different sizes. If you felt rich, you could get a cartridge emulator fitted too - never seen one, but assume they meter the oil through shims as per the cartridge in the later setup?

Re: Front forks
I think the bottom of the stantions are different.but someone on this forum said they could be made to suit.

Re: Front forks
off subject what would you set pre load and dampening at as a rough guide for the track on the later type forks?
