I think it'd fit in the frame but the oil tank (it's a dry sump engine) would get in the way of the 3EN fuel tank so a different oil tank would be needed. I fancied trying it myself

Hmmm..........might have to have a more serious think about it for my 3TJ......
Anyone got a TRX lump they could measure up for me?

Yep!

What would you like to know?
Here's some bad pictures of my FZR-
Thundercat/TRX front end
Hmm... TRX wheel won't fit in the standard swingarm
Another pic of the front end. The TRX yokes fit straight in with no messing around :)
The TRX seat unit fitted. The front mounts line up perfectly with the top subframe bolts :)

Looking good so fay Kayla
I'm sure the engine could be made to fit in the 3TJ frame, just need to know about clearance around the frame spars, and how to mount it as it doesn't look like it mounts at the cylinder head. The 400 engines are all the same 'size' so i need to know how wide the 850 is in comparison and how high so i can work out if the airbox will fit under the tank.
I take it you have a complete engine from a running bike, with loom etc......? Would you consider selling it to me if it looks like a possible fit?
Ta for your help,
Nick.

The TJ/TRX conversion has been done before - I don't know quite how it all turned out.
You might have a look at the TDM900 engine too

Ok, i'll do a bit of 'googling', see if i can find anything
In the meantime, have you got any more info/links to sites or threads?
What sort of power are the 850/900 lumps turning out as std?

I think the TRX engine makes a little more power than the TDM850 but expect about 75-80bhp from a decent one with open pipes and lots of torque. I've got some FCRs for mine and they add around 5bhp using the airbox, and around 8bhp using foam filters. Around 100bhp can be had using the higher compression 878cc kit. The TDM900 engine is different to the 850- the 900 won't go straight into either a TRX or TDM850 but the 900 top end can be put on an 850 bottom end if the small ends are taken out to accomodate the larger 900 gudgeon pins but you'd get more power from an 850 taken out to 878.
I'm not selling any of my TRX stuff Nick- the loose engine is from my 'nice' bike which is being rebuilt. Scruffy ones do crop up from time to time for not much at all- the tatty one we got cost us £450 with tax and MOT. I'll get some engine measurements for you today

Ta for that Kayla, i'll keep my eyes peeled for a 'cosmetically challenged' TRX and if the price is right i may be tempted. The thought of a twin in the 400 chassis........
Not sure how to route the 'zorst though........

Hi folks I've got a TRX, I bought it new in 2002, a totally different beast to to an fzr! I had it dyno'ed and it makes 79 bhp at the wheel with Remus carbon oval cans on it. I've since fitted a K&N filter, iridium plugs & taken out the foam lining under the tank to help it breath a bit better so it should make a bit more power now. I'm not sure the engine will fit in an fzr frame as it's quite tall.
Might be fun though.
