Fairing lowers - Lugs are broken. Repairable? or Junk?
Hi All,
No pics yet, but I have 2 Original fairing lowers with snapped off lugs / brackets. (The 3 mounts that connect the mid panels)
They've just been in my shed for ages gathering dust. Shall I just throw them away or can they be repaired?
The fairings are nothing special, they are tatty but if repaired I could stick them on my trackday bike.
They still have the heat resistant foam inserts on the insides.
Thx,

you can fix it with some fiberglass.... my original fairings have lots of cracks and have some patches of fiberglass inside... they are pretty durable and can withstand vibrations and heat, more effective probably than plastic advesives around.

+ 1 for plastech.
you can really make any sort of a lug for fairing with the kit. the resultant plastic is very durable and hard too. recommended

Been looking at Plastex for a while now. What I was wondering is how far do these kits go? by this I mean how much could I do with a standard kit, as looking at them there is not a lot, unless it expands like foam. For instance my recent oopsy when the bike fell over created lots stress fractures and a fist sized crack to the bottom of the fairing around the mounting point, would a standard kit fill these ok?

Easy, just scrape along the crack to form a V fill with powder and add the liquid, job done as easy as that.

Did you repair your panels?
I was in the same diellema I thought i was going to have to street frighter my bike, and i fkin fkin hate all the street fighter bullcrup, as in cycling you get the same with cyclists that ride with no brakes and a fixed wheel? wot dikkks !
I snapped of the threaded bolt holders from an old radiator (as they were welded to a plate of alu,) and I put an allenkey bolts through the mating panels and fibreglassed the bolt where it was held by the allen key bolt. then when it dried I had a repaired fairing!
Hint - dont repair it on the ground and let the resin run through onto the groound so the fairing panel gets torn into 2 when its picked up
dont give up!

nothing wrong with street fighters so long as they are done right. i often go to shows and see some spectacular examples of engineering/paint jobs. not to be sniffed at.
fairings can be obtained for our bikes, only your finance stops you.

to show off what the owner, often a mechanic or has a mechanical mind/out look can show off what they can do.
ifr your asking that, you havent seen a proper street fighter. when you do see one next.. have a gooooood hard look at what been done to the engine and frame. some also have brilliant paint jobs too.
but i do love 100% custom bikes.. not race rep shite
