Oil blowing out of the side of engine?

Post by ian »

(bike is a 1997 super four)

After doing the shims and putting the bike back together, I went for a test ride. When I got back though, I realised my left foot, and left side of the bike - were coated in engine oil!

It seems oil has been blowing out of the hole in the picures below:

Does anyone know the purpose of these holes? the other side has one, which is fine - as they were before I did this work.

Some sort of breather perhaps? When rebuilding the cams the lubrication probably over filled the oil.

Cheers

They are there to let water that gets into the spark plug recess out. So either you have a spark plug on the LHS that isn't tightened correctly, or you didn't seat the rocker cover gasket correctly, or it's split.

Damn I'm good. Next!
