nc23 MOT how do u get it to pass?

Post by wig »

I keep failing mot's for reasone which i can do something about and some not.
I have got some replacemnt discs, pads, changed fork seals. etc but one thning i cant do - the mechanic says the holding of the bike or control is affected by the hands hitting the tank.
well this is not something i can change unless I batter the tank with a hammer. How the heck do people seem to get mot's on these bikes? the garae are used to doing track bikes and all sorts, but they keep telling me not to bother.

mmmm

I'm new to these bikes so my answer may be useless but is it possible that the bars are not long enough? Could you replace tehm with longer bars to move your hands further away from the tank or can they be moved out a bit and repositioned?

Sounds like a problem with your lock stops. There are 2 lugs near the centre og the bottom yoke which butt up against lugs either side of the headstock on the frame. These can be damaged in a crash. If the stops are still there it may be possible to drill and tap a hole to fit a bolt (or bolts). Alternatively, you can put a bar/bung/anything solid on the clock mount bracket to stop the actual fork leg from moving too far, thus stopping you trapping your thumbs against the tank.
If your mechanic at the MoT station was helpful he'd be able to suggest a solution! :poke:! Try posting a pic of your lock stops, they are just next to the top radiator mounting points.

Also, make sure the bars are at the top of the fork leg, as they have lugs on which locate in the bottom of the top yoke to position them correctly. They should alos have a circlip around the fork leg to stop them from slipping down...

cheers for the replys
The lock stops are deffinatly ok (i had a bike (same model)b4 that had one missing)
the long handlebar sounds like an option.

Do i have to have mirrors?
i was thinkking of removing all the fromt fairing so the brake levers do not get so close to the fairing either.

I think right hand mirror is a minimum requirement - well it was when my old Vespa was MOT'd!!

if its all standard stuff and straight then it sounds like you have got a right ass of an mot bloke!think the credit crunch is affecting people too much!
try going elsewhere and ask them first if they think it will be a problem.a friendly mot test centre will do that for you.unlike your place.

mirrors are not a MOT requirement.

if the handle bar "fouls" with anything or hits the tank its a fail.
on the NC29 we can adjust the clip ons (handle bar) in or out. no idea if this can be done on a NC29?
Also, my m8 had a moped fail MOT for the bars hitting tank. his had no adjustment.... he took a hammer to it! passed MOT after that!

i would agree with this as yourve got 7?10?days to fix anything, my handlebars dont hit tank but my clutch lever hits fairing when fully over to left and my mechanic passed it. when i first used my mech for an emergency flat i sorted the lads out with a box of beer, ever since ive had untold great advice, hell check bike over pre mot and let me me know prior so ive got room to breath and not have to pay out again.
as LP has said, no need for mirrors for mot, you dont even need indicators (if they are on they have to work tho).
