Shock options for 1WG model

Post by Drunkn Munky »

A friend of mine is restoring a 89 FZR 400, 1WG model i belve it to be. The shock is totally shot and needs replacing and with these models being quite old now a good standard shock id imagine to be near imposible to find so what about later R6 shocks, do they fit? or has anyone tried anything else?

r6 shocks with the forked bottom do fit and are pretty much sme length as stock, you might have to shave off the corners on one side to get it to fit properly but it should be pretty easy! i looked at a load of others with the same fitment which could fit, its all down to spring weight though, shocks off bigger bikes will be harsher as they are intended to carry more weight, they can be resprung but it all depends what you want it for! i race on a standard 3en1 shock and it still handles well enough!

Tis true - you want a late R6 shock from the new shape bikes ... red spring. Round of the square and fit with 25mm jack up dogbones. With the the standard spring you need to back the spring rate right off.
But it should be a relatively cheap mod as the shocks are discarded by racers.

3TJ shock's to long ... which is why you need an extension to the R6 shock to make it work
