loving my nc30!
I don't really have anything mega interesting to say, just wanted to share with you my first real experience of my bike...
passed test last thursday with 2 minors, was absolutely ecstatic and immediately insured myself on my nc30 when I got back... the next day I rode home to North Devon from my base in Bordon, Hampshire (I'm armed forces), which is over 160 miles... and what a journey it was! the bike didn't miss a beat, it gave me pure thrills on dual carriageways and twisties alike. the acceleration is impressive and the engine noise is just pure sex, especially out of the aftermarket can. mine is on J plate on 40k km, in repsol colours and just looks gorgeous.. it's slightly quicker than standard having a HM factory kit and I definately got upto almost 120mph before the restrictor kicked in. definately wanting to get a mph converter to derestrict it.
I'd been having some issues with the choke; running rich, failing to start etc so i called a local guy who runs a small business repairing bikes from home, and the first thing he said is try some redex... which i reluctantly did... i found after a week of running it up daily (just letting it tick over - with choke half on - and giving it the occasional blast of revs) the problem had pretty much gone! it now doesn't take more than a couple minutes and i can turn off the choke. this guy told me that opening the throttle can help to clear the jets which were probably blocked/dirty. so I've seen that redex can work. yeah I chickened out of doing the carbs...my bad...but this guy said before I went down that route to try this. of course the bike would still probably benifit from a carb overhaul, which i'll probably get done in due course.
anyways I wanted to mention my location (Bordon, Hampshire - just off the A3, before Petersfield junction) cos if anyone is interested in ride outs around this area (i've noticed some guys in Portsmouth) then to give us a shout at weekends cos i'm well up for it if I'm here.
oh, a quick one for anyone who might know. i can only seem to get about 12 litres of fuel in my tank despite my bike having a 15L tank (including 2L reserve). Plus, when I ran outta fuel the other day, i switched to reserve, but the bike still wouldn't start. There was a small amount of fuel in the tank, probably half a litre, but the bike only started when i put in a gallon. does anybody know what this could be?

if you only had about half a litre in it, and had to put a gallon in it to start it, it sounds like you were running on reserve in the first place then turned it to 'on'.
the position at the top is the position the tap is on.
i fill up as soon as i can after i hit reserve, and can only usually squeeze 10 litre's in it, so dont worry about that.

Ah, reminiscing... I remember my first ride on an nc30, what a blast!
I wouldn't worry about the fuel capacity, mine seem about the same.
There are several ways to remove the 118mph limiter, some cheap some expensive.

contract rick oliver on the site. he sells a plug and play resister for £6 i think. cheap and cheerful and away you go. its basically his home made version of the M-max box, which is in reality just a resister in a water tight box, with a lead and plug coming outStickshift wrote:Ah, reminiscing... you can remove the restriction yourself it's only bending a metal strip back inside the clock unit I think...?

Hey bud, I passed my test last sept, and did exactly the same as you, went straight out and picked up an nc30. My first ride after my test was comming back from Leeds to Bournemouth on my newly acquired 400 shitting myself on the M1 ! Was fecking brilliant. I live in Bournemouth, so not a massive distance away. Could meet up some time, go for an nc30 hoon.

I just got it back from a guy who balanced the carbs (they were a little bit out) he seems to think it's got a smaller tank on it than standard, as there are some unused fixing points where the tank sits. I definately wouldn't have been running on reserve to begin with, I make certain it's "on" before setting off, and now (upon this guy's advice) I switch it to off about half a mile until I finish - he said it helps to make sure there's no fuel left sat in the carbs at switch-off.... The sh!t thing about my bike at the mo is that when it's empty it's empty - ie when i switch to reserve there's still nothing. So i'm gonna probably have to judge it by the trusty tripometer.
£6?! awesome - beats paying £60. So this DIY version also converts the speedo? I'd be glad to remove the mph sticker currently on my speedo face, especially as riding at night you can only see kph...!
I remember last weekend I went 120mph on it (on a private road of course.....
) so do you think it's been derestricted already? I read that many grey imports were derestricted on their arrival to the UK. I'll try and find another private road to see if I can go any faster, I think if I can I'll be in no doubt as to whether it has or not. I still want that mph converter though!
I'll definately be up for a burn, I'm looking to find some popular riding routes down south. I have the A339 which runs from Alton to Basingstoke, no cameras and twisty with straights, although it's only about 8 miles and at the end it can get greasey as it's covered by trees.
if anyone out there knows of any good routes in hampshire, surrey etc, please get in touch!
