radiator fan

hi,

i just purchased a vfr nc30, unfortunately the radiator fan wont spin automatically when it reaches 90 temp...

but there is a manual switch for you turn on the radiator fan

probably the thermo switch is already broken... any idea on how much this will cost including shipping to the philippines?

It won't come on at 90, from memory it has to be over 120 for it to come on.

Thermo switches are around £29 english pounds plus whatever shipping is.

Like VFRman said.. fan comes on quite high.

Many people manual bypass fan so they can turn it on earlier... check that your bypass hasn't disabled the original thermo switch completely.

thanks for the info... i still like the option for the manual switch for the fan and also just in case i forgot to turn the switch on, i still want the fan to be in automatic

the sparkplug here cost about 20 US DOLLAR.

is it also possible to use an HID BULB for our beloved vfr?

the fan should come on between 98-102c.........so chances are it still works fine,you just need to let it heat up a little more.

the hid headlight is a universal kit that can be bought and fitted.there is a topic on the forum all about the hid headight kit.

although i havent seen the bike reaches that temp because i am scared that the bike would overheat

how would you know that the bike is overheat? the temp needle should be at the right most side of the gauge or if its in 3/4 i should be worried?

assuming all guages and senders are working fine then the normal position when riding on the road with airflow is 90 or around 1/3rd of the way. UK models run a bit cooler than that with aid of the oil cooler.
even in standing traffic at this time of year unless your rads are clogged or pumps goosed then seeing it raise over half way would take at least 5+ mins more like 10.
if it hits 2/3rd's of the way then your fan should be kicking in, if it doesnt then you have a problem that needs looking into.
They do run warm by default, but clear rads and a good pump whould be enough to make the bike cope in 30+ degree summers (even abroad too).
also check that the cap still is a good fit.
biggest problem is the lower rad is clogged with mud in the fins, good used clean rads are near on impossible to find, new aftermaket is costly but problem solved if your bike runs hot
