Out of fuel feeling

I've been getting this lately with the usual symptoms of loads of fuel and restarting on reserve after sitting for a few minutes. I think its a blocked fuel tap/filter. Can anyone tell me what to expect when i dismantle the tap with regard to its internals, and whats the best thing to use for cleaning it?

If the tap is blocked its most likely to be the initial filter that sits in the tank, just letting the crud dry and tap it off gets most off then maybe some clean petrol to wash it out with.

If the filter is blocked you may also want to flush the tank out, if it's rusty then you really want to do something about that too.

You may also want to check the vacuum tube and replace that if it's perished.

Just a diaphragm and a spring, its very simplistic, nothing to worry about.

Theres a suction line from the intake of cylinder #3 to the carb diaphram unit, check this pipe isnt leaking.. The internal filter of the tank has two plastic tubes with fine mesh openings, the one for normal 'on' fuel switch position ends about 4-5cms from bottom of tank, so if your tank is any emptier than this level youl have to use reserve.. This cant block easily tho and is easy to check by lookin into tank.. Open the diaphram and check operation by applying a suction, the rubber piston should pull away from the fuel opening.. Check your fuel filter wen idling to see if fuel is flowing
