bike runs fine in neutral, put it into gear and cuts out!!

Post by arkeye »

started the bike like i usually do, got onto it to go for a ride and as soon as i put it into first it died instantly like someone turned the ignition off.

thought id try second gear from neutral and the same thing happened. ive tried holding the revs at about 6k and putting it into gear and it just dies! any ideas? could the clutch be knackered?

Do FZR's have a side stand cut out switch? Maybe a fault with that? I dunno..

Sounds like the right lines; my fzr250 had a side stand switch, and that was my initial thoughts on the problem.

Yes they do have a cut out switch. Track the wires from the switch unit and find where it joins the loom and bridge the terminal. If the bike can go into gear with the stand up it's the switch.

i had this problem with my 125........

i would be out riding and it would all of a sudden cut out and then come back on again.

the only reason i managed to find the fault was when i put it into gear and it kept cutting out.....same symptons as you!!!!

i done the same mod as ec say's and it worked a treat after that, just need to make sure you put the stand up before riding off ;)

This isn't a mod, this is testing the switch. If the switch is faulty replace it.

i removed the side stand cut out switch, bridged the connections and left it like that.....so in my case,it was a mod!!!!!!

Could also be the clutch sensor. Had that problem on my 3en2.

Solved it by bodging a wire from the gearbox to battery earth. Did mean my neutral light was permanently on, again maybe not so good for a new rider.
