Getting the spring of the standard shock

Post by Drunkn Munky »

Whats the best way to get the spring off the standard RVF shock? My new ohlins spring hasnt turned up yet so gunna try the standard spring on the RS250 shock.

Has anyone tried this? or has anyone run a rvf with a RS250 shock and spring?
The shock has been reworked by maxton to suit a 12stone rider and im 11 stone, do you think id get away with just cranking up the preload and comp and keep the RS250 spring?

Not a chance, the spring rates are way different to what you need as the linkage ratios are very different.

Putting the rvf spring on would be a better idea.

Well i got the standard rvf spring on after much f**king about with some spring compressors that were way to big for bike springs. Result......way to stiff, not sure why but sod it i'll just have to wait for ny ohlins to turn up and get the shock rebuilt to suit the RVF.

Spike, I didnt have the shock reworked by maxton, the previous owner did but it was on his RS250. I have had one done before tho and it cost around £100. If your anywhere near surrey id recomend steve jordans.

While im on the subject does anyone know whats involved in rebuilding the shock to suit the RVF? Mine has been rebuilt and setup by maxton but that was when it was fitted to a rs250 so is it just a matter of changing the spring or will it have to be revalved different to suit to RVF?

Simon ed, did you cut the rvf spring down to get it on the rs shock? cos i had a nightmare compressing it enough to get it on, and then once it was on i had bugger all preload adjustment as the collors were right at the top of the adjustment range.
