NC30 wont start, think its flooded but any advice?????

Hi there

started my bike yesterday as normal let her warm up and turned her off no probs, tried today and it stunk off petrol and flattened the battery, charged it tried again and the same....

Any advice for starting her now shes flooded? Turned off petrol no choke etc etc and tried to start but no luck....... I wanted to clean the carbs before summer and was wondering if some crap has got in?

Also petrol tap position, if reserve is pointin up towards the tank does that mean its in reserve or am I 180 degrees out??

Any help tips etc are as always greatly appreciated, just charging the battery again now.

hello-

a supposed good tip for trying to start a flooded engine is,hold the throttle fully open and keep cranking the engine.

this is to draw more air than fuel.......

on the fuel tap there is a short end and long end,when the short end is facing up this is....on!!!and when the long end is up this is reserve.and in the middle is off!!!

you could leave your bike for a full day before trying to start it,and use correct cold starting method....choke on no throttle!!!

thanks for that info, so if I leave it till tomorrow what is the best way 2 start it? No throttle full choke just crank her over?

yes.........

that is the best method for cold starting,in the summer you would get away with starting the bike with a bit of throttle....well,mine does anyway!!!!

Crank it over full throttle no choke for 5 seconds and let it sit 30 seconds before trying to start it.

Cranking it till the battery goes without the pauses could damage the starter motor.

And yes, starting it would be full choke no throttle till it's running.

lol it was a bit vauge 'keep cranking the engine' best to be specific, not presuming everone is stupid but i've seen many people do stupid things by following instructions a bit to literally :D

also make sure that the vaccum pipe to the fuel tap is there! I knocked mine off when I removed the fairing, It stank of fuel (suspected flooding too) and it flattened the battery.

Turned out to be that stupid little pipe! worth a look?
