Fuel Tank Rust Prevention - Solutions and Advice!

Post by exabetac »

Hi all,
I've been noticing a bit of rust forming inside my fuel tank lately (on my NC31). It's a common problem, especially with older bikes and varying fuel quality. I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread dedicated to sharing tips and tricks for preventing and treating fuel tank rust.
What methods have you guys used successfully?
* **Fuel Stabilizers:** Are they effective at preventing rust from forming during periods of storage? Which brands do you recommend?
* **Tank Liners:** Are they a reliable long-term solution? What are the pros and cons of different types (e.g., epoxy, Kreem)? Any specific brands you've had good (or bad) experiences with?
* **Regular Maintenance:** Does frequently draining and cleaning the tank help? What cleaning solutions are safe to use?
* **DIY Methods:** Any home remedies that work, like using vinegar or citric acid? Share your experiences!
* **Fuel Filters:** Do they really help to catch rust particles before they reach the carbs? What mesh size is ideal?
Let's share our knowledge and help each other keep our tanks rust-free! Any advice or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers!.
