GSXR400 - GK73a - No spark even with new CDI.
Hi All,
I have a GSXR400 GK73A that is a project bike. I was told it was purchased as a parts bike parked up and left for 10 years. It was missing a CDI and front calipers so I purchased an Ignitech CDI and had it factory-calibrated. However, when attempting to start the bike there is no spark.
The bike turns over so it's not the kill switch or the kickstand. The bike came with a second set of coils and leads so I switched them out no difference.
I have tested the coils and there is power going to them measured as left 3.7 ohms / right 3.8 ohms
I took the coils off and stuck them on a 90's Transalp and saw a spark, albeit a bit weaker than the Transalp spark.
I took the Transalp coil and put it on the gsx and no spark. I'm hoping this proves it's not coils.
The pickup coil has a pulse measured at 5v not sure what I'm looking for here exactly.
I tested the CDI as best I could and there is power at both sides in and out. I also purchased another CDI however was sent one for the gk76a, not the 73 as requested, I wired it up to the bike anyway and it behaves in the same way as the new one but still no spark.
At this point, I am out of ideas about where to look next, my only thought is maybe trying to find a new/old pickup coil online.
Can anyone offer any ideas or explanation as to why even with power there is no spark? I hate to think it's related to the CDI as it cost a small fortune tbh but there is power going to and from it so I'm hopeful it's not that.

You should have a constant 12v at the +ve terminal of the coil when measured with ignition on and second test probe to battery -ve. The CDI pulses the negative (0v) rail.
You won't be able to measure anything reliably output wise without an oscilloscpe.
