oil leak??

Post by zxrkat »

My vfr nc30 leaked oil from somewhere on its first trackday, i bought the bike 4 months ago and it had been stood up for a year, i had it checked out, carbs cleaned and it went fine, took it to Donny and it managed 3 sighting laps, oil all over front and dripping into bellypan, cant see where it has come from, doesnt leak on tick over, no oil in airbox?? Stumped, any help most welcome.

loose oil filter? easily done...

welcome too by the way!

You might have to get down and clean it up and then run it - but dibs for me would be to nip up the filter first.. :geek:

Doesn't leak on tick over? Are you sure theres still some oil in there? Just checking!

Yeah, see if you can tighten the filter up if not its the hard way, fairings off, clean it all up (brake cleaner is good) check the oil level then run it, if its slashing out shouldnt be too difficult to find

good luck

yeh it'll either be loose oil filter or cracked sump, on a gasket gone somewere but that shouldnt have leaked much

check the front, like CMSMJ said and check the oil filter, think u need to strip the fairings off it, jet wash all the oil off and check oil pipes, breather pipes etc

Check the timing inspection cover too, its happened to me before...on a 150mile journey.

The oil sends to soak into the spongy stuff on the lowers and then when thats taken all it can it dribbles down to the middle and looks like its coming from the front end.
