any plymouth area nc30 nc35 owners out there?

Post by firebeast »

after finding anyone in the area with either model who will allow me to have a look at their bike for sizing and if laid up over winter,a chance to use a frame for moulding protectors.
i am finally starting to get my arse in gear to make up moulds for producing carbon and grp(fibreglass) parts.
i work for a large well known local yacht builder so have got plenty of experience in the area and want to look into intially making frame protectors, exhaust hangers and heatshields, full rear huggers that incorporate a section for covering the linkage area if possible, front mudguards and maybe other bits, depending on what i manage to find and also get enough demand for.
i will of course be giving anyone who helps me the odd part as i thank you and will be gratefull for any help i recieve.
rick o has offered me a swinger on loan but i really need a full back end to get it spot on for the hugger.
i will aslo be making stuff for the 29 which may include the headlight surround in carbon, which if you guys showed enough interest i would look at seeing if it could be done for the 30 after seeing one used one back in gb mag years ago! :D
will look into 3tj and zxr 's when i get the chance as well.
anyways, email me on
moshie69@blueyonder.co.uk
or ring me on 01752513523
cheers

if your serious ,and you sound like you are, then i'd be interested in a set of frame protectors,FG hugger and some other odds and sods in carbon once you get it sorted out, they have to be at a good price thats the only thing,i would offer bits to you but i am too far away

so what sort of bits are you looking ?
i could maybe post you a front NC30 mud guard but they are the same (asaik) as the cbr400 gull arm
i also might have a can hanger for you to copy

the hanger would be good, but want to make the carbon version just solid,as opposed to original.this is mainly for making the job a lot easier and quicker.i could put a vfr logo on the mould to emboss it,but would want feedback from people about that as it might look a bit tacky.also dont know if its the same as the rvf one?obviously,if everyone said they wanted it like the original then i might have to change the plan, but want to be able to produce as many as required quickly
as for bits then a heatshield is another.already started on the mudguard-- got plenty of them.
in terms of what else?
guessing the ram airboxs would be good but later on and those carb trays-which look from what i have seen on ebay, like they would take no time to knock up!
at the end of the day i want to start on the smaller jobs, then if things are progressing well, look at bigger stuff.
my costing will be relatively low, especailly on fibreglass as i dont need epoxy resin(the expensive bit!),polyester resin is much more abundant for me.
only thing i will say is the fibreglass products(not carbon) will initially be in white gelcoat.
will just need a spray.

I've got a couple of bits I would like made out of fibreglass. Maybe I can pop around one afternoon with them and see what you think.

well if spike can lend you that hugger and you do a copy of it in white fibreglass i'll be first in the gueue to see whats it's like.

i can send you a hanger or send it to spike and he can drop it over with his hugger and i think a solid carbon replica sounds good ,but no cheesy NC30 logos and you're right the VFR and RVF hangers are the same

if you're thinking bodywork also i have a fibre glass kit which i stuck into a car 2 months ago,it's all there but just needs a bit of TLC but if you're interested in borrowing it i'm sure we can work something out

steve.no worries but give me a bell first as i am chaddy now so you need directions.
as for the hugger, thanks but had phone call earlier from someone who i havent seen in a while in plymouth who has got a frame lying around which he is happy for me to use and also has a hugger so thanks spike but i wont be needing it.
as to the hanger,i will let you know for sure after i have seen my man with the frame as he has got a full 30 so i can check out my sizing and fitting on that.
when i have started making bits i will post a few photo's and i am sure if steve gives them the nod then the rest of you will be happy.
glad to hear my cheesy idea isnt liked.lol.
i am just trying to think of the simplest way for me to make the carbon items as anything thats gonna involve later trimming and more finishing can be time consuming and create more costs for me as well on specialist tooling.
the fairing is something that i would look at a bit further down the line tbh,as firstly the moulds will take up a lot of room which i dont have at present and a lot of time getting right.
i am guessing the hugger is what your after me doing first?i might be able to do dark blue gelcoat as an alternative but i havent got plentiful supplies on that one and it takes a bit more work.lol :D
