Fitting a new shock ( NC30)

Post by emto » Tue Dec 23, 2008 4:41 pm

I'm about to fit a new Nitron shock,(with exhaust still in place) but following the Haynes is as usual overly complicated. Am I right in saying I remove the top bolt on the shock, remove the bolt on the pivot arm and drop it clear to access the lower bolt of the shock, remove this & lift the shock clear from above. I hope its above because I've no clearance beneath it with my half Ethos system.

Any guidance much appreciated.

You have to decompress the spring as much as the ring will release it, supporting bike with pole thru frame hole also helps get weight off it, the unsrew the bolt thru the eyehole of the top of the shock & the bolt thru the swingarm linkage, there shudnt be any compression in spring at this point and bolt should release easilty.. Post a pic of the shock if u can? and following haynes instructions generally better idea than plodding it yourself & finding out afterwards you damaged something!

Is there are big reason why you cannot just take the rear section of the Ethos off?

Removing the wheel, the half system and the rearsets gets you some good access as you definatley want to know your shock is in right....

It will drop into the swinger and then you "should" be able to wiggle it out of it from the top.

Putting a new shock in is a ballache -especially if it is longer so have some patience! good luck :D
