NC21 side panels

My VFR400 NC21 arrives tomorrow that I bought from auction, very simple question what is the correct way to remove the side panels under the seat, it's the non-faired model?
Obviously you undo the fastener but from photos Ive seen of panels on fleabay there are also plastic dowels many of which I see had been repaired where they had broken off, I want to avoid breaking mine if they are still intact.
