Broken engine mounts / frame straightening...

Post by Redsbike »

Put my NC30 in for an MOT last week and it was found to have broken frame mounts on both sides where the frame connects with the head.

To add to the fun it was discovered the wheels were out of line, suggesting a bent frame. It is cat C on the V5, put had passed previous MOTs without the faults being found.

Any answers / suggestions ?

Thanks

Hiya, I probably have a similar problem. Had a bit of an off, now it looks like my front engine mounts have snapped off too. Nice clean break though!
Anyone have an idea if these sorts of mounting bosses can be repaired/ welded? If it wasn't load bearing I would think about using aluminium epoxy, but I doubt that would be strong enough. HRC go to great lengths to get the frame stiffness/torsion right, I don't want to mess it up! Also I may be giving the bike to my girlfriend so I want it to be safe.

side note, yes forum, that is how you spell aluminium, so there! Stuff your red squiggly lines...

It's a quite standard 1991 model. In two minds whether to keep & fix it, but it probably needs to be sold to someone else as a project.

Quick update, been quoted 120 quid to weld the engine lugs by a guy near me - that seems doable! Will strip it down and drop it off to him, will keep you guys posted.

Ok, to continue this slightly boring thread. I am still looking at selling my bike rather fixing the frame probs as it is now displaying an electrical problem.

Don't have any more funds or patience at the moment, unfortunately.

I have a price for it in mind. The bike (apart from the obvious) is in nice condition, the motor is strong. Has brand new Rick Oliver CDI unit, spare loom paddock stand etc.

Any takers ? (Yep this is kind of in the wrong section, sorry!).
