Chain & sprocket sizes for 600/400 3TJ conversion
My 600 3TJ conversion is almost complete, so what chain should I be using and what size of sprockets & length of chain to get the best out of it on the road (I don't do track)?
I've currently got a 428 chain on there but the front sprocket is hooked, so it needs replacing anyway.
Now, the 600 foxeye (from which the engine came) is supposed to have 530 chain as per the OE spec but that's what I've got in my much heavier and more powerful FZR1000 and it seems to be lasting forever. So maybe in 94 the 530 chain was the thing to go for but technology moves on, so a thinner modern chain would probably do the job.
So I figure the 530 is over the top for this project and would sap some of the power, so if I'm going to buy something, I may as well get the right sizes first time round.
Thanks

520 I think. Although with the additional power you can have taller gearing How much I don't really know.
I'm going to convert my Bimota to 520 when that chain is done and I think most modern 600 to 1000cc bikes run the 520 too

Im running a 520 chain on mine. My current gearing is 14 front 44 rear. When i converted the figures from the standard 600 gearing i worked it out to need a 14 front 45 rear but i had a 44 rear and used it. This gearing is prob best suited for on the road but after i took my bike to a dyno they told me the gearing was a bit out for cadwell as it was doing 150 in 5th. In light of this i am putting a 47 rear on. Should give me a bit more acceleration!
