So after importing the 2TK from Japan in 2007 I have finally started to freshen it up and get it ready for registration. Current state is pretty poor.

11yrs worth of garage dust and stray cat piss has left the girl a bit rusty and stained around the lower half of the frame work and rims.

In the process of stripping it done and replacing rusted bolts and polishing all the alloy bits. ImageImageImage

Last week I placed an order through MegaZip for a handfull of bolts, screws and washers that needed replacement. While trying to clean a lot of the bolts up with a rust solvent solution. I found that a lot of the bolts fitted are actually chromed from the factory.

Which is pretty cool to see they really put the effort into 2TK all those years ago.

I striped the carbs and gave the float bowls a bath in the ultrasonic cleaner to clean the green fuel sludge that had formed. And then put a new 1WG seal and oring set from litetek into them. Pretty impressed with the quality of the kit from litetek too.

Carbs back on and ready to bolt the rest of it together. Image

Has it been run in the last 11 years? It would look a lot worse after that time in the UK! Looks like an excellent starting point.

Ive riden the bike 3 times in the 11yrs and all in the 1st 2 years of owning it. A track day, A Yamaha promo ride day for the R6 back in 07 and once to work when I installed a factory pro ignition advance and which was about 40km round trip.

I have started the bike over the years but its mainly spent its days under a bike cover in the corner of the garage.

Got the tank and airbox back on after rerouting most of the breather and over flow pipes that run under the tank. Also had to clean up the threads on a few of the captive nuts as they were a bit burred and would catch the fairing and tank cover bolts. Image

I love the engine in my 2tk, also the gearbox is fun.

Yeah they are a great little thing Laminator.

What made me import this one so badly was spending two days at the Nürbergring on the one I had in the UK. That little 2TK had been thrashed yet it didn't stop. And it felt great.

Time to tackle the front wheel and discs. I cleaned up the rear quite well the other day with some Meguiar's Hot Rims Factory Equipped Wheel Cleaner. This stuff works great as its got all the good acids that eat through brake dust dirt and grime.

The disc centres have a bit of surface rust on them so I might take them to work and put in the industrial parts washer the workshop has.

With the bolts and axle I will soak overnight in Metal Rescue rust remover I have and see how good they come up. ImageImageImageImage
