Hi/Lo switch. help needed.

Post by Davez29 » Wed Dec 03, 2008 3:38 pm

Hi, my Hi/Lo switch has lost the low setting, it seems to be stuck on high. Now then taking the actual switch apart it seems ok but does not click between settings and I have to pull the switch back to re-gain the low setting, so not ideal with an MOT due.

I have this idea a bearing has gone missing as there appears to be a small bent copper plate that looks as though it should have something running in it but something has popped out, dont know how, can anyone confirm if a bearing is in this switch?

BTW the small spring is still in place ok within this switch.

If not a bearing how do I get this switch working again.

Ok, as no one seems to know I suppose I've got to ask if anyone has a spare hi/lo switch they dont need?

Im after just a working white box assembly that encases the switch button. this assembly clicks into place on a black flat plate with contacts and wires coming off it.

here is a picture of it, sorry couldn't get it sharper, the phone wont go into macro mode.

have you tried wd40 etc, funnily enough the one on my nc30 the now is a bit temperamental.
it occasionally sticks on but if i hold it a little further in for a few secs it pops back out.

HI, yes I tried wd40 but I think its busted somehow as it does not return or switch over from one to the other beam, just stops on high and its impossible to get low beam when the switch is in place.

I had the same thing happen and ended up replacing the switch with a SPDT from Maplin and epoxying it in place. The original button fit on the new switch so you can't tell from the outside...

.

we have the same problem and it really hard to find the real problem with the switch....

i'm thinking of changing my entire left hand switch assembly, i believe that most bike models will fit with NC29.

i'll post my new switch when i change mine.....

1 question for ALL of you....

what wattage bulbs do you have fitted to your bikes?
if they are NOT the standard crappy honda bulbs 33/55W. your lo beam switch has probably burnt out due to much wattage.
the mod for higher wattage bulbs is fitting another relay to the lo beam wire AND fitting higher rated fuse.

Hi LP, as I started this thread a while back I suppose I had better answer.

Ok, in my original query basicly the switch had fell to bits, maybe too much prodding, dunno really? Now then a nice chap (wullvfr) sent me a replacement totally free but unfortunately it got jammed in a post machine somewhere along the line and all I got was a empty envelope, damn! So after a few more PMs to wullvfr he actually gave me enough info to fix my switch, which is working as good as ever today. BTW Im still using the original Honda bulbs, had to get one from DSilver the other day (nearly a tenner posted), one day I will get around to that mod you have done.
