Race nc 30 CDI question

Post by rigsby »

Hi,

I am currently preparing a recently purchased nc 30 for this coming season, i have sorted the existing wiring loom where i noticed the speed limiter wire orange/ blue is present in the loom but stops at the 6 pin white block connector that the cdi plugs into, i counted the wires coming from the CDI and there are 9 as appose to 10 which is shown in the haynes wiring diagram. The missing wire is the limiter wire, the wire hasn't been cut close to the CDI as there are only 9 wires passing through the rubber grommit and it shows no signs of been tampered with. The only markings on the cdi are ' OKI electric industry co, ltd' made in japan. there are some white markings on the face , i can make out 9Y08 and the rest has rubbed off.
Am i right in thinking this is either an after market CDI which has no limiter or it is from an earlier honda V4 that pre dates the speed restrictions. Any help greatly received if any one would no if other honda CDI 's can be fitted so i can figure out what its off.

The bike revved out on the last test but didn't seem to have that surge of power that i would expect it seemed pretty flat, i think it is running rich as its running 127.5 rear mains and 125 front, thats on a standard airbox etc although it does have larger headers. I have re shimmed valves and dropped jets to 118 rear mains 115 front. I am yet to test the bike since mods but if the CDI has a different mapping maybe that could be causing an issue.

OKI is the OEM manufacturer for the VFR ignition, 9Y08 is probably part of the manufacture date. IMHO I would wait to see what effect the jetting changes make before taking further action.

Std CDI - and I'd agree that your original jetting was too high. My old race bike ran 120s and std airbox and was lovely.
