Raise handlebar height?
I know this probably and odd one but here goes...
So this is my first bike since passing my MOD2 a year ago. Lusted after one of these for years and thanks to a close friend I now have one and I absolutely love it....well i love looking, hearing and sitting on it.
I don't like riding it, i find it incredibly uncomfortable and find my brothers R1 a far more comfortable ride.
I am only 5ft 5 so the CBR appealed to me greatly as you can imagine...so i don't think its a height issue as you can't get much lower than this bike? But on rides out i find myself getting neck and back ache pretty quickly and it's breaking my heart as i'm just not wanting to go out on it.
Is there anyway of making it more comfortable? I assume the issues arise from the fact the handlebars are very low down (as they rightly should be)
This chappy seems to have carried out some sort of Frankenstein operation and raised the bars but i would rather not go to these lengths?

Re: Raise handlebar height?
I know you can get slightly adjustable riser bars but wether they fit the 29 i have no idea, plus you may have to change cables and chop fairings even if only a couple of inches.
That 29 idea maybe the best bet for your circumstances, if you want to keep the bike, think street fighter, remove top and upper fairing add bars and small headlight fairing. i dont know if its a straight stem and yoke swap or wether the old stem would have to be repressed into the nc31 bottom yoke and again all cables would need to be changed/modified to nc31 cables for reach.
Im only 5' and only get minor ache after a very long ride, thats my age more than anything i think and generally find the 29 to be a very comfortable bike.
Hope someone else can chip in here.

I'm 5'6 & also find the NC29 to be painful - no idea why....
However, the NC35 I find really comfortable so much prefer riding that..lol
~Hoping to get a NC24 & NC30 soon (like the idea of a matched set !!) so may then have other options..

Re: Raise handlebar height?
Thanks for the replies chaps. I'd much rather keep the bike as original as possible, I love the look of her and chopping for a streetfighter fairing is not my thing.
I have looked into those clip risers, I assume if i find some that are 41mm diameter I should be able to replace my current ones with them?
The risers seem to raise it up by a few inches which may just be enough...
So it seems there isn't an OE way of bringing them up on top of the yoke?
I think partly to blame is that I've been blessed with recently riding a brand new CB650F and SV650 and they went like a dream and i didn't really want to get off! However, they lacked any sort of character, no engine noise, no thrills and certainly not the thing you may have stuck on your wall!
So i guess thats the trade off, you can't have it all!

Re: Raise handlebar height?
It is funny you should mention those style of handlebar risers, I've been doing a bit of research and have found a few options for clip on risers.
I managed to find a company in England that may be able to make some stepped risers from 13mm - 60mm. But i have no idea on the cost of them yet
There is also some "eBay" universal clip on risers that raise the height by about a 1", they are quite cheap at £30 so I might take an initial punt at those to see if im going in the right direction before I plunge into custom, cnc made stuff!
I'll keep this thread updated with my progress although I'm sure its a pretty niche market!
Thanks for everyones help so far.

Re: Raise handlebar height?
Just been searching around and noticed that the standard SV650 clip ons have a 'step' or raise from factory?
They seem to have 41mm forks too, so the same diameter as my 400?
Am i right in thinking i could buy these and give them a go? is there anything stopping me? Just thinking that these are factory made (so will be safer than a suspect chinese item) and also are considerably cheaper than investing £200 in some custom ones.

Re: Raise handlebar height?
You could certainly try the SV650 Clip-ons and as they go under the yoke as standard on the SV, should be offset forward enough to clear the top yoke on the CBR. Unfortunately there is only one way to find out if they will fit but they're cheap enough.
As a side note there are plenty of bikes with 41mm forks and the clip-ons from any of these may be possible to fit.

Re: Raise handlebar height?
Nice one, well I managed to find a set cheap for £15 delivered.
Had a look at the clearance between the switch gear / reservoir on full lock and it is quite close to the screen at some points but i guess i can always just put them lower down the stanchions until it does clear.
Is there any 'safety' reason why the standard clip ons are butted up against the top yoke? would i need to put a spacer between the new clips ons and the top yoke if i needed to drop them a little for clearance?
Cheers
