What does it do or not do?

Does it turn over? does the starter itself turn over?

The starter clutch locates on the crankshaft with the help of a wide spline type arrangement - in other words there is no way you can "unalign" this part. The idle/reduction gear simply "joins" the starter motor shaft to the starter clutch, there are no timing concerns here at all.

If your engine is not starting, it's not as a result of the starter gear dislocating.

I know, my terminology sucks!

Hello !

START UP
Slow crank over - like battery is dying -multimeter shows that battery is above 12 volts .
Check list - choke /no throttle ,kill switch,vacuum pipe,air ,fuel,spark,starter brushes -ok ,extra clean earth's .
What is the limit to skium/ground crankshaft cover ?
mm = ?
Thank's

Battery seems a little low
The voltage in your charegd battery should be 14V or so..if it is only just 12 then when you fire it up it will drop below 10 and turn sowly.

I would get a jump lead setup from your car or get another battery to start with.

at what point is the battery showing just above 12volts?
when the bike is started and running the volts should be 13.5-15 volts@5000rpm!!!!
