CARBS AND GEARING

Post by oiledaplug »

Hi All,
Just got my third SF which is a 98 version R. My previous 2 were 1992 project big ones. Sprockets and chain needed replacing,so i bought a kit which had a 42 rear sprok. This made it struggle slightly on steep hills.Checking around i found it should have a 45 rear, which i have fitted and alls well. Question is, whats changed between the two models to need different gearing?
Second. how do i get to the inner two pilot screws to adjust mixture? Or is there a certain tool i can buy?

thanks chaps, JEZ

Hi, I was told that rear sprocket for mine (92 model, was 44, had a 45 on rear and 15 on front) wore out chain quicker...

I'm running 16-39 gearing. Carbs are at 2 turns from seated on the mixtures. Does fail a little on steep hills but nothing a gear down or 2 can't fix. Makes twisties fun as don't really need to get out of first or 2nd (110 on limiter in 2nd.)
