Rear Shock Upgrade - NC23

Post by Crossbow »

I'mm looking at what options are available to upgrade the NC23 rear shock, and I have only come across the GF Racing shock and a Nitron Shock.

What have people gone for in the past and what are you opinions on them.

Is the extra £££ worth it for the Nitron shock?

Thanks
Andy

Don't think there are many options. What are you using the bike for?
I have the GF link and a cbr600 shock which is pretty good on track, and certainly better / stiffer than original, but compatible shocks for this kit are very old now. You'rd be looking for an 18 year old shock to match with the link if I recall correctly, they're all going to be past their best and needing a rebuild. Then you're still left with a bog standard budget Honda shock.
Aftermarket seems to start at £300 for hagon or £400 for a nitron, no experience of either on a sports bike.
i was looking into other options a while back, scrolled through a shock chart and there doesn't seem to be anything out there form a standard bike with even similar dimensions apart from a really, really old Honda 600. I think one of the r6 models came close (2co?) and I nearly brought one to have a play around with, but it would need some work and trial and error, not even sure if the reservoir would clear the fuel tank.

Hi, im no expert on suspension but when looking for a new shock for my 29 I needed to keep the same height as my original as im a shortarse so cbr600 shocks may have altered this. I looked around and thought Hagon £300 or Nitron £375 at the time, cheapest versions. But also reading around i noticed another mentioned. It was a Shock Factory M shock by Mike Capon right in the middle at £350.

Quite fancying the M shock for no other reason than it seemed ok and at least as good as the others, it also looked good with a red spring i parted with my £350 cash. Mike asked about my weight, riding style and length of the original shock. Very shortly after i got my new shock.

Fitting was a breeze, no adjustment to the swing arm as it was identical in length. Riding, It was set for my weight but i thought it a tad hard on the rebound, this could have just been me being used to a soft rear, dunno. So i adjusted the rebound knob by half a dozen turns until it felt right. I have to say along with the front linear springs its the best thing i have upgraded on the bike.

Thanks for the replies people.

Bike is going to be used for mainly road but also track use.

I've looked into nitron and they are around 375, wasn't aware hagon made shocks for them though.

Will definitely look into the M Shock too, not heard of this till now.

Thanks again
